Conversations

Write to some of your readers about one theme, by email, and read and answer their replies in one place

A conversation is a theme you talk about with some of your readers: a welcome, a question, an "ask me anything", a note to the readers who support you. You write one email, choose who gets it, and every reply comes back to the same place, Studio > Conversations, where you read it and answer it.

A conversation is not a newsletter issue. It goes to the readers you choose, one email each, and their answers are private between each reader and your team.

What you can do

  • Start from a template or from a blank conversation. See Start a conversation.
  • Write to readers you pick in Studio > Audience > Subscribers, or to a segment or a label. See Write to your readers.
  • Read and answer replies, give a conversation to a teammate, mark it done or put it off until later, and reuse your saved answers. See Read and answer replies.
  • Write better emails with templates of your own, merge fields such as the reader's first name, a preview and a test sent to yourself. See Email templates and merge fields.

Who sees conversations

Replies are private. Owners of the publication always see conversations. An editor sees them only once an owner has given them the right: open Studio > Conversations > Settings, and in Who sees conversations turn the editor on. Owners are shown as on and can't be turned off. Someone without the right doesn't see the Conversations tab at all.

The tab shows the number of unread replies on its menu entry ("99+" when there are more than 99).

Replies from your other emails

Readers can also reply to an automation email or to a newsletter issue. Those replies are not listed in the Conversations tab. You read them in the insights of the automation or of the issue, and the automation's Replies section.

Chat

Chat with readers, live and in the reader's own Conversations page, is being built and is not open yet. Until it is, conversations go by email, and a reader answers by replying to the email.
