Custom domain troubleshooting

Common causes of a stuck or broken custom domain

Stuck on "Waiting for DNS"

This is almost always one of a handful of causes:

  • DNS just hasn't propagated yet. This is normal and can take a few minutes to a few hours depending on your registrar - there's nothing to fix, just wait and use Check status now from Domain settings.
  • A plain CNAME at the bare apex. DNS doesn't allow a CNAME record on the bare domain itself (yourdomain.com, as opposed to www) - that's a DNS-wide rule, not something specific to Peakub. Use ALIAS or ANAME instead (some registrars call it "CNAME flattening"), or the A-record fallback if your registrar doesn't offer either.
  • The www record is missing. You need both records - the apex one and the www CNAME - for yourdomain.com and www.yourdomain.com to both work.
  • A typo, or a stale conflicting record. Recopy the exact values shown in Domain settings rather than retyping them, and check there isn't an existing record for the same host left over from a previous setup.

If it's genuinely still stuck after DNS has had a couple of hours to settle, that's a real signal your registrar might not support ALIAS/ANAME

  • Studio surfaces the A-record fallback automatically once you've waited that long, or you can ask for it sooner via the "My registrar doesn't support ALIAS or ANAME" link under the DNS records.

"Action needed" after your domain was already live

This means a domain that used to verify fine no longer does. The most common cause is a DNS record that was changed or removed after the fact - for example, moving registrars, or a bulk DNS import overwriting the record. Your publication keeps serving from its peakub.com address the whole time this is happening, so nothing is lost while you fix it.

To fix it: check that both records under Domain settings still match exactly what's live at your registrar, correct anything that's drifted, then use Check status now rather than waiting for the next automatic check.

Can I change my domain, or switch back to my peakub.com address?

Yes, at any time - but there's a short cooldown after each change, and Domain settings shows you the exact date you're free to change it again if one applies. Unlinking a domain doesn't release the domain name itself; you keep it and can reconnect it (or a different one) whenever you like.

Still stuck
