Undo, redo and version history

Go back and forth through everything you saved, with nothing ever lost

Every time your content is saved, Peakub keeps that version. The Undo and Redo buttons in the editor's top bar walk back and forth through those versions, all the way back to the first one, so you can undo a change you made an hour ago, not only the last thing you typed.

Undo and redo

The editor's top bar has two arrow buttons, "Undo" and "Redo", just before the variants button. Click Undo and the content goes back to the version before. Click Redo to come forward again. A button is greyed out when there is nothing further to go to.

Each step does four things for you:

  • It saves what you were typing first, so nothing you wrote is lost.
  • It brings back the version you stepped to, saved as a new version. Your history is never rewritten and nothing is deleted: going back is one more entry in the list, and you can always go forward again.
  • It reads the editor again, so what you see is that version.
  • It scrolls to what changed and makes it pop, so you see where.

If you make a change after an undo, there is nothing to redo any more: the versions you stepped back over are still in the list, but Redo no longer leads to them.

Going back past the versions saved since you opened the editor shows a message naming the version you reached ("Saved as a new version: nothing is lost").

Restoring changes your draft, like any edit: readers see it when you publish the article's changes.

The keyboard

Cmd+Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows and Linux) undoes, Shift+Cmd+Z (Shift+Ctrl+Z) redoes. This works when you are not typing in a text: inside a text block or a field, Cmd+Z keeps doing what it always did, undo your typing there.

See every version and pick one

To jump straight to an older version, right-click Undo or Redo (or press and hold on a phone). A "Versions" window lists them, each with its number and when it was saved, and "Published" on the ones that were published. Pick one: "It's saved as a new version: nothing is lost."

With variants

If the content has variants, undo, redo and the Versions list are those of the edition you are editing: stepping back in the French edition leaves the English one as it is.

Where it is

Undo and redo are in the editor's top bar of articles, zines, pages, coverages, events, visuals and blurbs. They are not in the post composer, chapters, series, long forms and videos, nor in the editors of book clubs, publications, referrals, rubrics and topics.

A save that changes nothing doesn't make a version, so the list only holds real changes.
