Blurbs
Your library of reusable content: texts, links, galleries, files, images and cards, written once and used everywhere
A blurb is a chunk of content you write once and reuse across your publication: a text, a link, a gallery, a file. Edit it in one place and it changes everywhere it's used. The Blurbs tab of Studio is where you keep them all.
The Blurbs tab
The tab shows one row for each kind of blurb:
- Texts
- Link lists
- Links
- Galleries
- Files
- Images and videos
- Cards
Each row has the kind's name, how many you have, and your latest ones side by side (scroll sideways for more). A row with none yet shows an empty tile with a "+": click it to make your first.
On the right of a row's name:
- See all opens the full list of that kind, with a search bar and a select that switches between "Your library" and "Also those made in your pages". Your library holds the blurbs you made on purpose. The other choice adds those that were created along the way while you built your pages.
- + New (for example "New gallery", "New text") makes a blurb of that kind. A link opens a small window; the other kinds open in their editor.
The Blurbs tab: a row for each kind.
Editing a blurb
Click a blurb to open it. Texts, link lists, galleries, files, images, videos and cards open in the blurb editor, with a Publish bar on top like a page's. Changes reach the places where the blurb is used once you publish it. A link opens in its own small window instead (see below).
The card of a blurb also has the usual controls: a link icon that copies the address of its page, an arrow that opens it, its statistics, and remove. Its publish button sits beside its status, as on your other Studio lists.
A page of its own
Each published blurb also has its own page on your publication's site, with its name, its description, its content and a comment area under it. The link icon on the blurb's card copies its address, so you can share a gallery or a text on its own. A blurb that isn't published shows nothing to readers.
Links
A link blurb is a link to another website. You write it once, and the same link can be used in:
- your menu (see Your pages and menu)
- a Link card block on a page (paste or pick a link in the block)
- the list of a Links page or block
Whenever you add a link in one of these places, you can write a new one or pick one from "Or one of your links". The window to add or edit one asks "Where does it go?" (the address), a name and an optional thumbnail.
Editing a link updates every place that uses it: the menu, the cards and the lists. Changing a link's address is different: it saves a new link for the place you're editing, and the places still using the old address keep it.
Seeing where something is used
When a blurb is used in a page or a zine, Peakub tells you, so you don't change or remove it by surprise:
- On its card in Studio, a line reads "Used in About, Issue 3". A page's name is a link to its editor. A link that sits in your menu also lists "the menu".
- At the top of the blurb editor, a notice says "It's used in ...: your changes show there too."
- Removing a blurb that's in use warns you that it will disappear from those places too.
- On any card, the paperclip icon opens a "Complements" window. Its "Used in" tab lists each page, zine, list and menu that uses the item, one per row.
Blurbs made in a page
When you drop a photo or a file into a page or a zine, or add a card there, the blurb is made right inside it. These blurbs are made along the way, so they don't show in "Your library": you find them in a kind's list (See all) by switching the select to "Also those made in your pages".
- They go out with the page. Publishing or republishing the page or zine that shows one publishes its changes too, so readers get the photo, the file or the card exactly when the page's change goes out. Before that, readers don't see the blurb at all: one that was never published shows them nothing.
- Where it's live. In that list, each of these blurbs says "Live in About, Summer zine": the published pages and zines that show it. When none of them is published yet, the line is missing.
- Keeping one. Under that line, Keep in library makes the blurb one of your library's. Publishing one by hand (its publish button in the Blurbs tab or in its editor) does the same. From then on it is published on its own and no longer goes out with the pages that show it. Publishing a page never does this.
- Shared between pages. If several pages show the same blurb, publishing any of them publishes it for all.
