Pins
Keep a story, a coverage, a zine or an event in front of your readers
A pin keeps something you made in front of readers, in a place of your choosing on your site, for as long as you want. You can pin an article, a coverage, a zine, an event or a book club.
Pinning from Studio
Each of these items in Studio has a pin icon in its controls. One click pins it where it usually belongs, and a message confirms it:
- an article becomes the top story on your Home page
- a coverage goes in the menu and becomes the top story, while it's live
- a zine or an event goes in a bar under the header
- a book club goes in the menu
Click the pin again to open its settings and change where it shows, or to unpin it.

Where a pin can show
- Menu: a pill in your menu bar, before or after your menu items.
- Under the header: a bar between the header and every page.
- Top story on Home: featured first in your Home page's news.
- On a page: before the content of one page you choose. This only appears once your publication has pages.
- Footer: after every page.
One item can be pinned in several places at once.
How many pins fit
Each place holds a few pins at a time:
| Place | Pins at once |
|---|---|
| Menu | 2 |
| Under the header | 1 |
| Top story on Home | 1 |
| On a page | 1 per page |
| Footer | 2 |
When you pin something into a place that is full for those dates, Peakub tells you what's in the way and shows it as readers would see it. You can unpin it and pin yours instead, start yours when the other one ends, or put yours in another place that has room. Nothing is saved until you choose.
When, who, and what it says
- When: forever, between two dates, or, for a coverage, while it's live. The dates follow the coverage if you move them.
- Priority: low, normal or high. When several pins compete for one place, the higher priority comes first.
- Who sees it: everyone, signed-out readers, signed-in readers, subscribers, or readers who haven't subscribed yet.
- Label: a short text to show instead of the item's own name. In the menu, labels are cut after 30 characters, with an ellipsis.
- Readers can close it: for the bar under the header, a page and the footer. A reader who closes a pin won't see it again in that browser.
If a pin isn't showing, its settings say why in red: it's paused, it's scheduled for later, it has ended, or the item isn't published (or, for a coverage, isn't live).
The top story is drawn by your Home page's news block, which features articles. A pinned coverage appears in the menu, but doesn't show as the top story for now.
Seeing everything you pinned
In Studio's Website tab, the Pins block lists everything pinned on your publication: the item, where it's pinned, its priority and its dates. From there you can edit a pin or unpin it. The menu's pins are listed in the navigation editor too.
Showing pinned articles on a page
The Pinned stories block, available in the page editor, lays out the articles you pinned, whichever place they're pinned in, highest priority first. See Website & Pages.
