Calls to action

Subscribe, upgrade, share or comment buttons you write once, change in one place and place in pages and articles

A call to action is a button that asks a reader to do one thing: subscribe, become a paid member, share, join the book club, leave a comment, or go somewhere. It is a kind of snippet, so you write it once and change it in one place. Wherever it is placed, the change follows.

Make one

In Studio > Snippets, the Calls to action row lists them like the other kinds. Choose New call to action to make one. Its editor shows the button as readers will see it, and under it:

  • What it does: pick one of the actions below.
  • Button: the text on the button. Left empty, it uses the action's own text.
  • Caption: an optional line above the button. Subscribe, with a caption starts with "Get every new post in your inbox. It's free."
  • Where it leads, for Custom only: any web address, or any of your publication's content.

You can also make one on the spot while writing, from the "/" menu of the article editor. The menu proposes each button already drawn in your publication's colors. See Snippets and blocks from your publication in an article.

Where to place one

  • In an article, with the "/" menu, under Calls to action.
  • In a page, as the Call to action block of the page editor. See Page editor.

An article shows the call to action as it is published now. Keep it as it is now on the block freezes the article's copy.

Announcements

Announcements are the other new row of the Snippets tab. An announcement used to be made inside a page only. It is now listed in the Snippets tab, can be placed in an article from the "/" menu, and keeps its from and until dates wherever it is placed.
