Curtain

Choose how each page of your website invites a new reader to subscribe

The curtain is how a page interrupts a reader to offer them to subscribe. You choose it for each page of your website, from the Pages list.

Set a page's curtain

  1. In Studio, open the Website tab and find the page in its Pages list.
  2. Press the Curtain button on the page's row. A side window opens.
  3. Pick a choice, then press Save. Readers get it at once.

The choices, each drawn on a sketch of a page before you save:

  • Off: nothing interrupts the reader.
  • Progressive: a window rises as the reader scrolls on.
  • Full page: a page over the page, with a close button and a No thanks. It shows your publication's logo, name and description, and the subscribe form.

A page you have not set follows its default, marked Default in the window: Full page for the Home page, Off for the other pages of your website. Picking the default again makes the page follow it. Articles, zines and other content keep the Progressive window they had.

What readers see

  • A reader who is signed in and not subscribed subscribes in one click. Anyone else types their email and nothing more.
  • A reader who says No thanks is not asked again on that device for 30 days. The same No thanks silences the curtain on the whole publication.
  • Subscribers never see it, and neither do readers who arrive from one of your newsletters.
  • It appears in the browser after the page has loaded, so search engines read the page itself, not the curtain.
  • Closing the Progressive window does not count as No thanks: it comes back on the next visit.

A "No thanks" is remembered on the address where it was given, so a reader who uses both your peakub.com address and your own domain may be asked once on each.
