Migrate from Substack

Peakub has a free built-in migration tool to get you started quickly when you come from Substack. You can import your free posts automatically, and bring your paywalled content and subscriber list across with an export file.

What comes across automatically

As soon as you paste your Substack URL into Peakub, we start discovering your free, public posts in the background - no export file needed for those, and no login required. You can keep setting up your publication while this runs.

What needs your export file

Substack keeps paywalled post content and your subscriber list private, so there's no public way for us to read them - only your own export file can bring those across. It's also how we confirm you actually own the publication: only the account owner can generate one.

Create your export

1. Log into your Substack account.
2. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Advanced.
3. Create a new export.

Once it's ready, Substack gives you a zip file - download it.

Upload it to Peakub

1. Head to your publication's migration status in Studio.
2. Upload the zip file you just downloaded.
3. We check it against what we already discovered publicly, then patch in the full content of paywalled posts and import your subscribers. You'll get an email once it's done.

Known limitations

• Podcast episodes aren't brought over automatically - you'll need to re-upload those manually.
• If the export doesn't match the publication you're migrating (for example, the wrong Substack account), we'll let you know by email so you can re-upload the right one.
