Report, block and mute

Tell us about content that should not be there, and choose who you do not want to hear from

You can report almost anything on Peakub, and you can block or mute the people and publications you would rather not deal with. Both start from the ... menu, and neither is visible to the person or publication concerned.

Where the menu is

The ... menu (its label is More) is at the end of the reaction bar under a post or a comment, in the header of the cards of articles, zines and other pieces, on a person's profile and on a publication's page. On your own things it only offers what you can do to them, never Report or Block.

Report something

Choose Report. A window opens beside the page and asks Why are you reporting this? (or the name of what you are reporting). Pick a Reason:

  • Spam
  • Harassment or hate
  • Violence
  • Sexual content
  • Impersonation
  • Misinformation
  • AI-generated and not disclosed
  • Illegal content
  • Breaks this space's rules

Add a few words under Anything we should know? (optional), then Send report. A person will look at it. If you already reported the same thing, the window says so and nothing is sent twice.

A report of something in a publication's own space, a comment under an article or a post in a book club for example, may go to the creator for the reasons that are theirs to judge: spam, harassment, their space's rules. The creator never sees who reported. The most serious reasons, and what is not in a creator's space at all (a publication, a person), go to Peakub.

Illegal content

Illegal content asks for a few more details, so the report can be acted on: which law it breaks or what kind of content it is, why you think so, where it is, your name and your email, and a statement that you are acting in good faith. The window sends you to Fill in the illegal content form, with what you were reporting already filled in.

You do not need an account to use this form. It is at /report and linked from Report illegal content in the footer of every page and from the Terms. Paste the link to the content if the form did not get it from the page. We acknowledge your notice by email and tell you what was decided.

Block or mute

Open the ... menu on a person or a publication and choose Block or Mute. You can also do it right after a report: the window asks Do you also want to stop seeing it? with the same two buttons.

  • Block hides them from you and keeps them from replying to you. For a publication, it is the publication's team that cannot reply to you.
  • Mute is the lighter choice: it hides them from you, and they can still reply to you.

Leaving blocked and muted people and publications out of your feeds is being connected place by place, so you may still see some of what they post for now.

A blocked or muted person is never told. Once you have blocked or muted someone, the same menu reads Unblock.

If you block a publication you are subscribed to, Peakub asks You subscribe to this publication: choose Keep subscription (the default) or Also unsubscribe. Blocking does not end a subscription by itself.

Your lists

In your account, Settings, Moderation has three pages:

  • Blocked and muted lists the people, publications and fediverse accounts you blocked or muted, each with an Unblock button.
  • My reports lists what you reported and what came of it. See Notices, appeals and your reports.
  • Moderation notices lists the decisions about your own content or account. Same page.
