Send From Your Own Domain
Send your newsletters from your own address, like hello@yourdomain.com, and keep the reputation that comes with it
By default, your newsletters go out from an address on Peakub's newsletter
domains (see Email delivery). You can
send them from your own domain instead, for example hello@yourdomain.com.
Your readers see your address, and the reputation of that domain, good or
bad, is yours alone.
Set it up
- Open your publication's settings, go to Website and choose the Email domain tab, next to Domain.
- Type your domain. If your website already has a custom domain, it is
filled in for you, without the
www. - Choose the Address, the part before the @. It is
hellounless you change it. A few names are kept for Peakub's own use and are refused, such asreplies, bounce, fblandpostmaster. - A line shows the result: Your newsletters will come from hello@yourdomain.com. Press Use this domain.
Add the records at your DNS provider
After you save, the tab lists the DNS records to add where your domain's DNS is managed (your registrar or DNS host). Click a name or a value to copy it. Each record says Found or Not found yet.
- Two records that sign your emails. They point at keys Peakub's sending service publishes, so the keys can be changed later without you touching your DNS again.
- A
bouncesrecord, where bounces, spam reports and readers' replies come back. Because of it, you never edit the SPF record of your main domain. - A
linksrecord, so the open and click tracking and the unsubscribe link also use your domain. - A DMARC record, shown only if your domain has none.
Records you already have are never replaced: add the ones listed and leave the others as they are.
Waiting, then live
While records are missing, the tab says Waiting for DNS and how many of the records were found. Peakub checks again every 15 minutes. Press Check now if you have just added them. DNS changes can take a while to reach everyone.
Until every record is found, your newsletters keep going out from the Peakub address. When the last one is found they switch to your address on their own, with nothing to press. The tab then says Live and shows the date of the first send from your domain.
A new domain warms up
Mailbox providers don't know your domain yet, so it warms up on its own for 21 days. It starts at 50 recipients on the first day and grows by half again each day: about 2,900 on day 10 and 15,000 on day 14. From day 21 it has no limit of its own. The tab tells you which day it is on.
While it warms up, the readers who get your newsletter from your own address are your most engaged ones: those who opened or clicked in the last 90 days. Everyone else gets the same edition the same day from the Peakub address. Nobody waits and nothing is delayed.
Your publication keeps its own sending standing: sending from your domain does not reset it. How sending works is in Email delivery.
Replies
Replies from your readers still reach you: they are passed on to the email address of your Peakub account, as before.
Change the address, or go back
- To change the address before the @, edit it and press Save.
- Changing the domain means adding a new set of records.
- Stop using this domain asks you to confirm, then your newsletters go out from the Peakub address again.
