Who can react
Decide who can comment on and like an article, a page, a series and the rest of what you publish, and what a reader sees when they can't
Every time you publish, you decide who can react to the piece. The choice is in the publish window, after the block where you choose when it goes out. It is there for articles, long reads, series, pages, publications, snippets, rubrics, coverages, referrals and book clubs.
The four choices
- Anyone can react: every signed-in reader can comment and like. This is what applies when you haven't chosen anything.
- Only subscribers can react: readers subscribed to the publication can. Members of the publication's team always can.
- Only paid subscribers can react: readers on a paid level can, and the team.
- Disable reactions: nobody can comment or like, you included.
The rule applies to every comment and every like on the piece. Taking back a like you gave is always possible, whatever the rule says.
What a reader sees when they can't
A reader who isn't allowed is told why, in their language: "Sign in to react", "Only subscribers can react here", "Only paid subscribers can react here" or "Reactions are off for this piece". They can't get around it by other means: Peakub checks the rule when the comment or the like is sent, not only on the page.
Who can react on passages
On an article, a second select, right after the first, sets who can react on its passages (see Comments on passages). It reads On passages: same as who can react until you change it, and then you can give passages their own rule. For example, let anyone like and comment under the article, but keep passages for paid subscribers.
Changing it later
Open the publish window again and change the select, then publish the changes. The new rule applies to the next comment or like. Comments already there stay.
