Export your data

Take everything your publication holds, in open formats, in one zip sent to you by email

You can take everything your publication holds at any time, with no reason to give. You get one zip file, in open formats, with a link sent to your email. Only the owner of the publication can do it.

To download only your subscriber list as a spreadsheet, see Subscribers.

Start an export

On your Studio dashboard, press Settings. At the bottom of General, the Export my data block has an Export my data button. You can also reach the same window from Download my data in the removal window.

The window lists what can be taken, all switched on by default: Posts, series and rubrics, Pages, Zines, Coverages, Book clubs, Events, Posts in the feed, Subscribers, Conversations, Links to your media, Settings and Automations. Switch off what you do not need, then press Start the export.

Follow it

The window shows the state of the whole export (Starting, In progress, Putting it in one file, A part failed) and each part as it goes: Waiting, Reading, Done or Failed. You can close it and come back: the export goes on in the background. If a part fails, press Try again beside it. The others are not redone.

While an export is running, the window shows its progress instead of the start button, so a second one cannot be started.

What you get

When every part is done, the window says Ready: the link is on its way to your email. It usually arrives within a few minutes. If it does not, press Send the link again: the window answers Sent again. The link works for seven days. After that the file is deleted, and you can ask for a new export.

The zip uses open formats you can read without Peakub:

  • your content as JSON, with Markdown or HTML for the text,
  • your subscribers as a CSV,
  • your media as a list of links,
  • your settings and automations as JSON.

A small file in the zip says when the export started, how many items each part holds and what was skipped. An export is not a snapshot: if you publish while it runs, the newest changes may or may not be in it.

If you remove the publication

A zip you asked for stays available until its link expires, even after the publication is erased.
