Remove a publication
Remove a publication and everything it holds, with thirty days to change your mind
Removing a publication erases it and everything it holds. It is not instant: the publication goes offline at once, and the erasure happens thirty days later. Until then you can undo it. If you only want a pause, use Unpublish instead.
Only the owner of the publication can remove it.
Start a removal
On your Studio dashboard, press Settings. At the bottom of General, in the Danger zone under Export my data, press Remove. A side window opens, Remove this publication?.
- What blocks it. If something does, the window says It cannot be removed yet and lists each reason with what to do about it. While anything blocks, the window shows no name field and no Remove button, only Close. Deal with each reason (some can be dealt with from the window, see below), and the name field appears once the list is empty.
- What happens, in words, with the date of the erasure.
- Download my data takes your data first. See Export your data.
- Type the name of the publication to confirm. The whole name, as it is written. Remove is enabled once it matches.
- Press Remove. A window, Confirm it's you, asks for your password. If you never chose one (you sign in with a code or a provider), press No password? Email me a code and enter the code sent to your email.
What blocks a removal
Each reason is written in plain words in the window, with what to do about it.
- Earnings are not settled yet. Wait until they are settled into your wallet.
- Part of your wallet is on hold. Wait until the hold ends.
- A payout is on its way. Wait until it arrives in your bank account.
- Payments received in the last days can still be refunded or disputed. Wait until that many days have passed since the last payment.
- Paid subscriptions still running. If any of them renews, the window offers Unpublish now: after a confirmation, the publication goes offline and each subscription ends at the end of its period. Remove the publication once they are over.
- An import is still running. Press Stop the import in the window and confirm, or wait until it finishes. What was already imported stays.
- This is the platform's own publication. It can never be removed.
- Your payments could not be checked, or Its imports could not be checked. Try again in a moment.
What happens at once
- The publication goes offline, and search and recommendations drop it.
- Paid subscriptions end at the end of their period. Peakub gives no prorated refund on a removal.
- Subscribers are told once that the publication is closing, and paid subscribers when their plan ends. Imported subscribers who never confirmed are not emailed.
- Emails still waiting to be sent are cancelled, and automations are paused.
- Your API keys are revoked, and your custom domain is detached.
- The Studio shows a banner, This publication is scheduled for removal, with the date and Undo the removal.
You also get emails: one when the removal is scheduled, a reminder three days before the erasure, and one when it is done.
Undo it
Until the erasure date, press Undo the removal in the banner. A side window, Undo the removal?, says what happens and asks you to confirm with Undo the removal. Nothing is erased. The publication comes back unpublished: publish it again when you are ready, and your subscribers find it again then. Your custom domain is attached again. Your API keys are not: create new ones. A data export that is running goes on. If you schedule the removal again later, your subscribers are not told a second time.
On the day
A background job erases the publication: its content, subscribers, conversations, files, automations and settings, and what search and recommendations held of it. Its CherAmi sending account is closed for good. Reader accounts that Peakub created only for this publication, through an import or an invitation, and that were never used, are erased too.
- Money records are kept. Ledger entries, payouts and invoices stay, as the law asks. Your wallet and payout account belong to your own account and are not touched.
- Other publications keep working. Where another publication used one of your pieces (placed in its book club or coverage, or reposted), a small card, This publication was removed, takes its place. Their own articles are never erased.
- Your address is kept for you. The publication's old address answers that it was removed, and only you can take the name again, for a year.
- Your export stays. A zip you asked for stays available until it expires.
- Page statistics are not erased: they age out on their own after 25 months.
